Job Summary

WKAR is looking for you! WKAR, the PBS affiliate within the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and a national broadcast leader, seeks a News Editor to facilitate the creation of meaningful and thought-provoking multimedia news content. News content will be distributed via WKAR Radio, TV, our digital platforms and regional and national partner media outlets.

 

The News Editor is expected to produce news content as directed by the news director and fill in as host when needed; serve as primary editor of WKAR news content, providing feedback and coaching to new staff before, during, and after the news gathering process as well as pitch and produce spots and long-form stories as time allows.

 

The News Editor supports WKAR’s responsive, engaged connection with community and audience by attending community events and engaging community partners and participates in fundraising activities at WKAR and in the community. The position works in collaboration with the news director to improve newsroom work processes that increase quality and quantity of news product.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

·         Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in journalism, broadcasting or related field

·         Demonstrated ability to edit news copy

·         At least three years’ experience in a radio, print, or digital newsroom

·         Experience using an online content management system and social media platforms
