The Flathead Beacon is looking for a new staff reporter to join our award-winning editorial team in northwest Montana, where since 2007 we have operated as a free and independent community news organization with an emphasis on public service and accountability journalism. The reporter will be responsible for covering local government, producing daily stories while developing enterprise pieces for which our newsroom is known and celebrated.The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the communities we cover and issues affecting our readers, as well as a willingness to hold government agencies accountable with watchdog reporting. The writer will also be tasked with piecing together features on local athletes, from high school football players to professional big air skiers. Yes, the beat is diverse, and the position offers an opportunity to wear multiple hats in an energetic environment.While no longer printing our free weekly newspaper, flatheadbeacon.com is updated daily and draws more than 2 million unique visitors a year. The Beacon also still produces several print products, including our flagship quarterly lifestyle magazine, Flathead Living.We are located in downtown Kalispell but employ a hybrid workplace model, mixing in-office and remote work with an emphasis on shoe-leather reporting.
