Description:

H-W News has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter to help cover Hamilton and Wenham, towns on Boston’s North Shore that have become a news desert. The successful candidate will have demonstrated clear thinking, tenacity, a sense of fairness and the ability to write news and feature articles in either a college-newspaper or professional setting. A four-year undergraduate degree is strongly preferred.

The reporter hired for this role will work alongside the editor to generate articles of local interest, including coverage of town government, schools and public safety agencies. The reporter will become deeply knowledgeable about Hamilton and Wenham, gaining an ability to identify important issues and newsworthy people.

The reporter filling this position must live, or relocate to, a community on the North Shore. This is in no way a remote position. Limited evening reporting duties will be required.

To the extent the market allows it, H-W News will be print-centric, with reporters’ time allocated accordingly.

Annual compensation will consist of pay of approximately $40,000 and an additional $10,000 to be used toward the purchase of health insurance.

The parent organization of H-W News has applied for nonprofit status and will be overseen by veteran journalists and other members of the community who bring relevant skills.

To apply, please email pdfs of clips, your resume and a brief description of why you would like to work for a local paper to: eric@h-w-news.com. H-W News leadership is moving quickly, but not hastily, to fill this position with a planned September launch of the paper and website.
