Description:
Austin Free Press seeks a talented contract/freelance reporter to join our team. Applicants should have a passion for informing the public and finding and reporting stories that help tell Austin’s story.
Freelance position, possibly leading to contract or staff reporting.
Pay commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
- Research, and at times, investigate news stories;
- Conduct interviews with sources;
- Write engaging and factual news articles and features;
- Fact-check information before publication;
- Utilize social media platforms to share news content;
- Collaborate with editors and other team members on story ideas.
Skills:
- Strong research abilities;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with sources and colleagues;
- Video, photography, and social media experience, and knowledge of AP Style, a plus;
One year journalism experience required.
