Sports reporter
The Bakersfield Californian has an opening for a sports reporter who will report on prep sports, college sports (chiefly Cal State Bakersfield and Bakersfield College) and professional sports (chiefly the Bakersfield Condors). The reporter will work on deadlines throughout the day to produce stories and photos for our print edition, Bakersfield.com, social media, email alerts and e-edition. This person will contribute to our social media presence. The ability to shoot video is a plus. 

Qualifications include:

• Two to three years of experience as a sports reporter preferred. Recent graduates with college reporting experience will be considered.

• Proven ability to report on all sports, cover games and develop good sports features.

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or comparable work experience

• Follow the best practices in journalism, Associated Press style and search engine optimization.

• Learn to use and effectively work in a content management system.

• Be well-organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

* Salary range $19 - $24 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, The Bakersfield Californian offers a comprehensive benefits package and 401(k) plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
