Reporter

The Kenai Peninsula Clarion, a division of Sound Publishing, Inc., is seeking a full-time general assignment reporter to cover the communities of Alaska’s central Kenai Peninsula, with a focus on the cities of Kenai and Soldotna. The ideal candidate will be interested in covering a diversity of community events and issues, such as arts and public safety, fishing, business and sports. The beat will also cover public meetings and local city councils.  The reporter will create copy for the once-weekly print edition and contribute two to three stories daily for the web.  Beyond completing weekly assigned stories, the reporter is expected to develop leads and generate story ideas. Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent required.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license and be properly insured. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or similar educational focus is required.
  • Computer and photography skills and working knowledge of AP style are necessary.
  • A strong candidate will also have experience at a community newspaper. A degree in journalism or writing may count for experience.
