Description:

The Maine Trust for Local News is seeking an enterprising and energetic journalist to join its reporting staff for the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel newspapers in Augusta and Waterville, Maine, and Centralmaine.com. This reporter will cover general interest news in a geographic beat, while also spearheading a start-up weekly email newsletter product focused on interesting people, places and happenings. The reporter will cover daily news in the region, devote time to important regional issues/enterprise projects and have an opportunity to develop a topic-based beat informed by their interests and the paper's coverage needs. The reporter must have excellent reporting and writing skills; a sense of urgency to beat the competition on developing news; comfort with a digital-first environment; a proven ability to file stories on deadline; and experience rounding out stories with depth and context. Applicants must also be willing to work nights and weekends. The Kennebec Journal prides itself on watchdog journalism and high standards of professionalism. We are an equal-opportunity employer. Applicants should email a cover letter, resume and up to five writing samples to Managing Editor Scott Monroe: smonroe@centralmaine.com.
