Description:

Are you ready to continue a long tradition of award-winning sports journalism?

The Graphic Printing Company, which operates The Commercial Review (Portland), The News-Gazette (Winchester), The News Times (Hartford City) and The News and Sun (Dunkirk) in east central Indiana, is looking for an energetic, motivated, passionate sports journalist to join its team as we fill a position being vacated by a longtime sports writer who is retiring after 40-plus years.

Our next sports reporter will work as part of a sports team that covers 10 area high schools across five counties for our publications. You will also continue to follow local athletes who are competing at the college level and write about area club sports and activities.

This job includes game/event coverage, feature writing, column writing, photography and some page design. (Photography and page design experience are not required.)

The Graphic Printing Company's flagship paper, The Commercial Review, has proven to be an excellent training ground for young journalists and has a long track record of awards from the Hoosier State Press Association. (We have just learned that in our first year of ownership, both The News-Gazette and The News Times will be receiving multiple Hoosier State Press Association awards for the first time in years.)

The candidate we are seeking will have writing experience covering sports at the collegiate and/or professional level.

Salary range is $25,000 to $27,500 for a 35-hour work week with some paid overtime expected.

Send your resume and three examples of your work, including at least one example of sports game/event coverage, to Ray Cooney at r.cooney@thecr.com.
