Description:
The Herald-Mail, an award-winning newspaper based in Western Maryland and covering parts of three states, has an immediate opening for an Editorial Page Editor. This is a full-time, exempt position. This individual will serve on the paper’s Editorial Board and be responsible for the Opinion pages in the newspaper. Duties include editing reader letters, layout of editorial pages, and researching/writing editorials. We’re looking for a strong writer who has great people skills and is adept with social media, and is also willing to appear on the company’s 24-hour cable TV news programming. A minimum of five years of experience at a daily newspaper is required, with a background in news writing and covering/reporting on hard news. Experience with local government beat reporting and politics is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a related field, as is a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. This is typically a Monday-Friday position, working a day shift, with other days/ hours as required. The position offers a strong compensation and benefit package, including paid time off, group health and dental, and company 401(k).
