The Catholic Health Association (CHA) seeks an experienced journalist  to fill a new associate editor position at Catholic Health World (CHW), an award-winning semimonthly, tabloid format newspaper. The position is in CHA's St. Louis office, where the newspaper is produced.  The associate editor's primary function will be as a senior staff reporter covering the Catholic health ministry; strong writing skills are a must. The successful candidate also will have solid editing skills. He or she will edit copy and manage some of the operational and administrative aspects of CHA’s newspaper. The associate editor must be someone with a beat reporter's capacity to generate compelling stories of interest to CHW's audience of hospital executives. This person will work in close collaboration  with the CHW editor and a second associate editor to shape the newspaper's content.  The associate editor will produce features,  news stories and analysis pieces on deadline, write headlines and assist in editing for factual accuracy, grammar and style.  This person also may support the editors of CHA's journal, Health Progress, and produce multimedia content for CHA's website.  

 A bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related academic field or equivalent work experience is required.  A minimum of 5 years reporting experience on newspapers, newsletters, or other rapidly recurring publications required.  Knowledge of health care and the business of health care, health policy, and Catholic teachings on health care and social justice are desired. Skills in social media and video storytelling are a plus.   The position will require travel approximately 5 percent of the time.
