Openings in Newspapers/Wires

Civitas Media, a growing leader in local media, is looking for an experienced Paginator with a Copy Editing background to be based at both its Lumberton, NC and Miamisburg, OH hubs. This individual is responsible for page design, writing accurate headlines, and copy editing but may also contribute editorial content to the newspaper.

Key job functions include:

·         Paginate pages that are graphically interesting by selecting and placing stories based on editorial judgment.

·         Reviews edited stories for grammar, syntax and spelling, content and style. Writes appropriate headlines. Occasionally build simple charts and graphs.

·         Also provides final page review, imports photo images from news services and prepares for placement, research and/or write stories, contribute editorial content when requested.

·         Communicate effectively with editors not on site using telephone, email or instant messaging.

Requirements:

·         Previous experience in newspaper layout design and/or copy editing desired.

·         Experience with NewsEngin, InDesign, and Saxotech workflow software preferred.

·         Must be willing to work evenings and some weekend hours.

·         Five (5) or more years of Copy Editing experience preferred
