Inside Science News Service (ISNS) -- http://www.insidescience.org/news-service -- produces journalistic articles on all fields of research news and related topics in all fields of science, including environmental and social sciences, for the general public. Articles are ready to run for syndication and attributed reporting by other news organizations, including: FoxNews.com, LiveScience, and Scientific American.
Description of Job Duties: Reporting— Because ISNS covers all fields of science (ie, environment, physics, tech, social sciences etc), writers may feel free to adopt a “beat” and pitch story ideas within that beat, or cover several topic areas. Writers should expect to pitch and/or accept assignments, research, interview, write and edit articles with ISNS editors for production and distribution to the Inside Science website and mainstream media outlets;
Other opportunities-- various aspects of news content production within the Inside Science brand of news products, including participation in our weekly editorial meeting (via Skype).
Internship operates remotely with a high level of mentorship--you work from your school or home office and interact with editors via email, phone, Skype and/or Google Hangout. May be possible to extend internship into paid freelance work. Credit for coursework will be supplied where required by your school. Schedule is flexible and works around your courses and other workload demands.
At least one non-fiction science news writing sample for a general-public audience is required.
