Title: Marketing Internships

Job Description: Interns for its upcoming sessions. This position is an excellent opportunity for people to gain valuable experience in marketing and recruiting. One intern will be hired for recruiting and marketing purposes for our internship program, and the other intern will work with Alumni Relations and marketing to NJC graduates.

The National Journalism Center is a non-partisan, non-profit internships program in Washington, D.C. that places applicants in media internships, focusing on government and policy reporting. NJC offers 12-week paid internships three times a year in Washington, DC.

In addition to real-world experience, interns are exposed to prominent DC journalists and public policy experts, as well as provided journalism training and participate in current event and public policy discussions. Students are exposed to new ideas and real newsroom environments, and interns are challenged to take advantage of the numerous opportunities available in Washington outside of their internship placements.

Paid $1200/Month stipend for duration of 12-week program (partial months will receive pro-rated stipends). The internship is a full-time position.

This applicant should possess the following qualities: • Great interpersonal communication skills • Self Starter, Great work ethic • Professional attitude and mentality • Great phone skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office • Understanding of Non-profits and recruiting strategies • Marketing experience or knowledge of different marketing strategies • Excellent writing ability • Understanding and experience with HTML

Sample Job Responsibilities Include: • Write, design and post ads on various job websites and college boards • Write press releases and make media contacts for intern placements • Work with the rest of the office staff on implementing new marketing strategies • Work with staff in developing new recruiting strategies to reach potential interns • Attend events and media related functions to make contacts with potential placements • Work with YAF and NJC staff on improving and redesigning the website • Handle day to day office tasks that may come up • Assist office staff with various projects as the semester goes on • Conduct screening interviews with applicants and write recommendation proposals accordingly

Rising Juniors, Seniors, Recent Graduates and Graduate students are encouraged to apply. Applicants are not required to be journalism majors; however, it is preferred to have some exposure/training to journalism and communications.
